It’s a good year for local comics so far. Regular comic cons in and beyond the metro keep comic artists and fans connected and updated. Local artists are emerging. The scene is very much alive. Two of the country’s popular comics artists are set to launch their books.
Toto Madayag will make his debut into the printed world of comics with “P*cha, E ‘Di Komiks,” a collection of his web-based comic strips Libreng Komiks. I first heard of Libreng Komiks when Madayag’s strip “Game of Trolls #2” broke the internet.
Manix Abrera, on the other hand, will release the 12th volume of Kikomachine Komix. Abrera has become an established comics artist because of his ingenuity. His ability to see the hilarity and the absurdity in everyday situations and turn it into something that transcends age, gender, and social class is what makes his work extraordinary.
The book launches will take place four months apart of each other. Madayag’s launch will be held on July 9, 1:00 p.m., at Comic Odyssey in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City.
Abrera’s launch will be held sometime in November. There are no specific details yet, but we’ll sure keep you posted.
